Logan County Arkansas

Originally called Sarper County when formed in 1871, Logan County was renamed in 1875 in honor of early pioneer James Logan who participated in the first territorial and state legislatures. From its early days, the county has had two courthouses, Paris, and Booneville.

Logan County is only one of two counties in Arkansas that has two national forests within its boundaries, the Ozark and Ouachita National Forests. The State's newest state park lies within the Ozark National Forest, on top of Mt. Magazine and bears its name. Mt. Magazine, the State's highest mountain at 2,753 feet, is the highest point between the Appalachians and the Rockies.

In addition to Paris and Booneville, seven other towns are found in the County - Blue Mountain, Caulksville, Magazine, Morrison Bluff, Ratcliff, Scranton, and Subiaco. The Subiaco Abbey and Academy in Subiaco is the oldest Benedictine monastery and only catholic boarding school for boys in Arkansas.
